Where else in England would everybody be on their feet before you're onstage; dance on the very parapet of the balcony; sing along word perfect; chuck lighted cigarettes from the balcony on to people below so the air smelt of singed hair....

Alice's magical mystery tour gets under way

Alice Cooper previewed his new show at the old Capitol Theatre in Portchester, New York this week. It was a dress rehearsal of sorts - Alice is about to kick off the mammoth tour next week in Philadelphia. The production, which will travel to sixty cities in the next 56 days, features many new visual props. Among the most spectacular is a guillotine - a guillotine where Alice's head is chopped off....

About 300 people were at the Roostertail Nightclub in Detroit after Alice Cooper's concert at Cobo Hall, celebrating their boys return to his hometown. Actually Detroit really isn't Alice's home town, but it's where the band lived for about a year - in Pontiac, Michigan, where they got together with producer Bob Ezrin and had their first big hit, "18" and so they've always had a soft spot in their hearts for the Motor City....

Two different superstars gave two different Press conferences - they both feel flat, with thuds. Alice Cooper has been holding Press conferences in almost every city. Alice, he talks long and well and wittily, but his conference (at the "Coconut Grove" in the afternoon) was more like a party that didn't quite go far enough....

Despite our plea for free beer for Alice a few months back, Budweiser are still turning a deaf ear, and Alice is buying his own. When he rang last week, he was just packing up five crates to take down to Mexico with him. Alice was also suffering from virulent food poisoning, contracted in Mexico on a recent golf sojourn. Undeterred, he was returning for more golf. ...
