Alice Cooper to rock in Arena this evening

Grove City's Student Government Association begins its series of concerts this evening when Alice Cooper and Holy Mackerel appear in the Arena. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and doors will open at 7:00. Admission at the door will be $4.

Alice Cooper has earned a reputation for its eagerness to evoke crowd reactions. In the words of Alice Cooper, lead vocalist for the group, "We're merely the end product of an affluent society. We enjoy getting on stage and showing the public what their world has come to. Only usually they're shocked."

At a recent concert in Carnegie Hall, the group began a new act, calling it "total environment theater", an assault on the senses. Alice appeared on stage in a silver chrome electric chair, dressed in a straight jacket with a six-foot boa constrictor at his feet. The rest of the group dressed in gold and silver mirrored clothing and wore heavy makeup.

Alice Cooper apparently enjoys watching crowd reactions to his antics. He has explained, "We like reactions. A reaction is walking out on us, throwing tomatoes at the stage — that's a healthy psychological reaction. Reaction is applauding, passing out, or throwing up, and all of that is a reaction as much of that we get, the better. I don't care how they react, as long as they react."
