A new book spanning the career of Alice, and the Original Alice Cooper Band, is set to be published on June 13th in the UK, and September 1st in the USA. Titled, Welcome To My Nightmare: The Story of Alice Cooper, it is written by Dave Thompson who has many rock books under his belt.

A few months ago, "Alone In His Nightmare" was released on CD, which features a live performance in Los Angeles, California from Alice's Welcome To My Nightmare tour in 1975. The album will now be released on double 180g red vinyl which will be limited to only 1000 copies. If you haven't already picked this up, it seems NOW is the time. The vinyl release is scheduled for April 23rd, or there abouts.

Alice Cooper is allegedly going to appear on an upcoming Paul McCartney tribute album. Other artists who are to participate include: Billy Joel, Brian Wilson, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Steve Miller, Jeff Lynne, Heart, Wanda Jackson, Kiss, Ronnie Spector, The Cure and Corinne Bailey Rae.

Steve Hunter made the announcement on facebook that he has decided not to return for this years tour with Alice. He has a new album to finish up and other projects he wants to work on.

Chrome Dreams in the UK are releasing a new documentary on the subject of Frank Zappa and Herb Cohen's Straight and Bizarre label from the late 60's and early 70's. Titled From Straight To Bizarre, the documentary features the Alice Cooper group quite heavily. Both Neal Smith and Dennis Dunaway are interviewed where they discuss auditioning and working with Frank Zappa, as well as being signed to Straight Records for the release of their first three albums (Pretties For You, Easy Action, and Love It To Death). There is also a fair amount of archival footage and photographs of the Alice Cooper Group featured in the documentary. From Straight To Bizarre is a worthy introduction to the bizarre acts Frank signed to his label during this brief period of highly experimental and creative music, also covering such acts as the GTO's, Wild Man Fisher, Captain Beefheart, Easy Chair and more. The documentary will be released on February 21st 2012 and is available to order from the Chrome Dreams website or from Amazon.co.uk. It is well worth picking up if you are into the Bizarre scene.

"The impulse for artists and musicians to form their own record labels are many. But often these endeavours are little more than vanity projects for which enthusiasm wanes when the first rush of releases fail to take off - leaving charity stores and flea markets awash with the unsold booty of such initially ambitious enterprises.

But on occasion proceedings in a side-line of this nature can prove not just sustainable but fascinating, profitable and wholly worthwhile; a task made a little easier when the boss is a bit smarter than the average guitar hero!

So it was with Frank Zappa. Desperate to remove himself from his original deal with Verve Records, in 1968 he set up the Bizarre and Straight labels in league with manger Herb Cohen, and so began a string of releases which remain extraordinary in the extreme.

Records by Frank himself and with his Mothers of Invention would rub shoulders in the label’s racks with releases by notorious paranoid schizophrenic and part time songwriter, Wild Man Fischer, ex-groupies the all female GTOs, acapella gospel collective The Persuasions, the first clutch of Alice Cooper records, Tim Buckley’s enigmatic Starsailor, live recordings by Lenny Bruce and Lord Buckley, and a range of other musical oddities generally of a quite startling quality despite their oft-eccentric content.

But it would be a 1969 release by the Mother Superior’s old teenage buddy Don Van Vliet – by then long re-christened Captain Beefheart - that would provide the art-statement for which the Bizarre/Straight enterprise is remembered best, and which remains to this day the pinnacle of achievement, not just at the House of Zappa & Cohen, but, for many, also within the normal confines of the genre loosely termed 'Rock & Roll'. To suggest that Trout Mask Replica - for it is this sonic marvel of which we speak - moved-the-goalposts is akin to claiming Jack the Ripper had ‘an eye for the ladies’!

This film revisits and reviews the astonishing music that came out on Bizarre and Straight, and reveals the background, operations and, crucially, the lives of the musicians, performers and management who made these labels the legendary reality they became.

The film contains exclusive interviews with many of the labels’ contributors including, Pamela Des Barres, John French, Jerry Lawson, Jeff Simmons, Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith, Essra Mohawk, Miss Mercy, Kim Fowley, Bill Harkleroad plus authors Ben Watson, Barry Miles, Mark Paytress, Billy James and Ritchie Unterberger. Also includes rare footage, archive interviews, location shoots, extras - and of course the music that made it all worthwhile."
