Is Anyone Home?

(Alice Cooper, D. Wexler, B. Saylor)

Talkin' in my sleep, next to no-one
Never, never say never again
I can't rise and shine now I won't even try
My rainy windows are cryin', cryin'
Shoulda, woulda, coulda been,
Like it should've been,
A contender like Marlon Brando
Eeny meany miney mo, caught a virus won't let go
Been down so long it looks like up to me

I'm so lonely I can almost taste it
In a perfect world I'd just be wasted
Send me an angel, wrap me in her wings
Hello, hello, hello, is anyone home?

Well people love to talk, when I can hardly walk
To them I'm probably just the news at eleven
It's the edge of night, as the world turns
Misunderstood, adjust the wrong medication

Wish I wish upon a star
I wish it hadn't gone this far
Been up so long it looks like down to me

I'm so lonely I can almost taste it
In a perfect world I'd just be wasted
Send me an angel, wrap me in her wings
Hello, hello, hello, is anyone home?
Hello, hello, I'm really really wasted

I live in a big doll house
And nobody's home just me and my mouse
I live in a big dark house
And nobody's home just me and my mouse

I'm so lonely I can almost taste it
In a perfect world I'd jjust be wasted
Send an angel, my own little angel
Hello, hello, is anyone home?
Is anyone home?
Hello, hello, is anyone home?
hello hello hello, is anyone home...

Song Information

Recorded as an extra incentive to purchase the Fistful Of Alice live album, this was the first new studio track from Alice in three years. Originally released in 1997, the song would also later be included on the Life and Crimes of Alice Cooper box set. "I wanted to write a song about the internet. You know the guy in the song is in a lot of trouble. There he is home on the computer--- home alone with just his mouse. He has no friends no social life. Soap Operas are his only romantic life. Its a really lonely Kind of song. The internet is such a scary thing, you know. It already knows to much about us. You can find anything and anyone on the internet----" (Hit Parader, December 1997)

"There is some social intercourse that we need to have. I can imagine when some guy will be home in his cocoon connected to his Internet and being fed intravenously, and he never has to move. He just becomes part of this machine. He becomes a borg. That kind of social isolation worries me. People proclaim on the news that one day, we won't have real money and we won't have shopping centers, and I'm going, 'I'll hate that! I'm a shopaholic!' My favorite thing in the world is being part of the crunch of people at Macy's in New York City, where you simply can't move for all the people around you. I love that! That's mostly what "Is Anyone Home" is about (Metal Edge, October 2000)
